The Alien in Life

The alien has recovered from her previous sickness, however has gotten a rather lengthy case of the sniffles which is turning into something worse. This week, I pushed myself (and my employees) to complete a large house job in only two weeks, and with my other job, I pushed a bit too hard. Back to sickness again. And no, I have not yet paid for the job despite asking for payment, or even partial payment, over three times.

Last Sunday, my schedule was such that I was off, and so I joined in the grand experiment of Ziztur's, the one in which churches were infiltrated. After not having been to a normal church since a friend's death, I was curious to attend the church of my youth, my grandparent's catholic church held in Affton. The church was also a school, and I have fond memories of fish dinners and cleaning the church on Wednesdays with other volunteers. I tried to look up the hours of services online and could not remember the full name of the church, and I gave up. I drove past where I knew the church to me, and passed by the building/school, to find no information on the doors I remember so well. I went home, and now knowing the name I knew was gone, replaced by a new name, I looked it up to find this: St. Mark catholic school (Formerly Mary Queen of the Universe).
The church I knew was closed. Minorly Devistated is the Alien at the loss of a bit of her past and her memories of her grandparents.
Instead, we turned to another church, a Methodist church nearby that in the early nineties, had a major fire that destroyed almost the whole church. You could see the fire even from the front of the building facing the highway, a memory stuck in my mind even though i was young. I had always been curious what had happened and what that church was about. We attended that one, and while Ziztur may post her thoughts about the church, and I will in a bit, the reason for the fire was arson by the janitor's son. He apparently burned two Methodist churches in his rage rampage. Wow. Notes on the church coming soon.

Other life news, the Alien recently lost data - over 6 months worth of painting portfolio pictures and college work I had intended to save. The hard drive simply stopped working, with no warnings or sounds. It was a laptop drive and therefore quieter, so I was not warned by sounds. Oh well, I thankfully did not lose my whole life on my computer, as I had my old backup 60 gig that started right up and contained all of my past and 1/2 of my college and portfolio. I have splurged on a new hard drive, as my poor little hard drive is full to the point where I cannot update even the antivirus software.
Another loss, in which I was glad I was home, was that the oil heater I had going downstairs started smoking at the plug, ruining the heater plug and the 3-way plug I had it on. Bye oil heater...
Oh did I mention I lost my grill/griddle as well, which broke suddenly? The one I use constantly? And the alarm on my car's brake pads also started singing to me, signalling a need to replace the brake pads after less than three years. All this at the slowest time of the year for people in my line of work, made worse by the economic woes. I'm hesitent to replace all I've lost now, as now I am in more of a saving mindset to get my savings back to a point where I have a cushion should business fall again.
